Marpenoth 12th, 1372 DR The Year of Wild Magic
Taking the Lord up on his offer you all headed out to the Kobold Lair to see what could be done. Finding it wasn’t a problem, the waterfall could be heard a mile away. Through the trees ahead you spotted many kobolds, some catching fish in the river, others arguing and doing whatever kobolds do. Before organising to much Dopey charged in and attacked the nearest kobold, and as expected was soon surrounded by a mob of angry kobolds.
They kept pouring out of the trees and charging whoever got in their way. Things got a little hairy as the group was invariable split two ways. Happy, Doc & Sneezy battling one crowd while Dopey & Bashful with artillery support from Grumpy & Sleepy tackled the other crowd. The fight didnt last long though and the few tougher kobolds seeing what was happening called the alarm to those inside the lair and retreated. After a brief stand off outside the lair entrance both sides took a breather, also taking the opportunity to trade insults.
Grumpy and Sleepy sneaked up and took lookout positions and the group decided on the best way to tackle the lair. Sneezy would launch a scorching burst through the waterfall into the cave beyond targeting a few kobolds that could be seen by Grumpy & Sleepy, and the rest prepared to charge in. For once it all seemed to go to plan, the scorching burst went off, screams ensued and the group charged in, to quickly find themselves out numbered 3 to 1 as kobolds came streaming out from around corners and hallways. Dopey and Happy blocked one hallway, but a large group of kobolds came at the group from another hall behind them and they where caught in between.
In addition a small group lead by a dragonshield came upon the group from outside having used the other exit, this caused Sneezy & Doc to delay their charge into the lair while they faced the assault. In the mean time the pesky little minions thrw javelins at anyone they could see, while the dragonshields, Irontooth, wyrmpriests & slingers moved into position. The constant barrage of javelins took their toll on Dopey, Happy & Bashful. Even though Grumpy & Sleepy where slaying minions left & right they just kept coming. When Irontoe entered the battle and took a swipe at a cornered Bashful the outcome was painful. Bashful collapsed and Dopey & Happy looked like they would be next. The constant barrage of javelins eased up, but a wyrmpriest incited the kobolds with renewed faith and they where no longer 1 hp wonders.
How Dopey and Happy survived the next few moments was, well the Gods must have been smiling becasue nearly every javelin, sling stone, or acid bolt missed its mark. This gave Happy the time to lay some hands on Bashful and bring him kicking and screaming into the world of the living once again, and some useful second winds and some extra inspirational healing from Bashful got the fight back on track. By this time Irontoe was bloodied thanks to some splitting the tree action and some well used extra actions by all. Irontoe entered a rage, swiping madly at Happy who managed to avoid the killing blow. Finally Doc & Sneezy joined the fight going on inside the lair after dispatching the small band of kobolds outside. A great strike by Dopey followed by a sneak attack from sleepy finally took out Irontoe.
Though the party was doing it tough the remaining inhabitants of the lair seemed to know that their fate was sealed with Irontoe gone. Doc fired off a group heal and Sneezy used burning hands to crisp a number of minions, after that apart from the odd wyrmpriest dragonbreath the fight was over quickly. Job well done!
